Tuesday, December 10 - National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, I.M. Terrell Academy Performing Arts Center, 7:00 PM

The National Honor Society chapter of I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those apprentices who meet the required standards in four areas of evaluation: scholarship, community service, leadership, and character. Apprentices are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school.

Apprentices in grades 10 through 12 are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.7500 on a 4.0 scale. Apprentices who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Information Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service as well as the names and email addresses of two I.M. Terrell Academy faculty members and one community member (non-family member) who are willing to complete a recommendation form on behalf of the candidate. Please note that the recommenders do NOT need to write a letter of recommendation. Instead, they will be asked to complete a form rating candidates using the rubric linked here.

The faculty council will review candidate information forms, feedback from the entire I.M. Terrell Academy faculty, and recommendation forms to determine membership. They will be looking for consistent examples of scholarship, community service, leadership, and character. A majority vote of the council is necessary for selection. Candidates will be notified regarding selection or non-selection via school email.

Following notification, a formal induction ceremony will be held to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all four criteria that led to their selection.
