Purpose & Goals

The Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) at I.M. Terrell Academy is part of the Global Young Leaders (GYL) program, facilitated by the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth. JWAC prepares students for international careers and civic leadership by developing global competence and cultural intelligence. The club’s goals include preparing students to make positive change in their communities, equipping members to interact effectively across cultures, helping students compete for jobs in the global workforce, and promoting respect for human dignity and global awareness.

Planned Activities & Meeting Schedule

JWAC members will participate in a variety of enriching activities throughout the school year, including attendance at WACDFW speaker programs and leadership trainings, participation in Academic WorldQuest and International Career Day, hosting international visitors and speakers on campus, completing at least 20 hours of community service annually, maintaining a social media presence to promote JWAC activities, preparing and submitting questions for guest speakers, and engaging in club meetings and global affairs discussions.

Support for Student Development

JWAC supports student growth by fostering leadership, civic engagement, and global awareness. Members gain valuable experience in diplomacy, public speaking, and problem-solving while building a foundation for future careers in international relations, government, and global business.

Alignment with Mission, Motto, Vision, and Core Values (MMVC)

JWAC aligns with I.M. Terrell Academy’s MMVC by cultivating visionary leaders, critical thinkers, and globally engaged citizens. Through international programming and service, students embody the academy’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and community impact. The club empowers students to understand global issues, embrace cultural diversity, and lead with purpose in an interconnected world.

The Junior World Affairs Council complies fully with the requirements of Texas Senate Bill 12. The club does not engage in discussions or activities related to sexual orientation or gender identity.
