Purpose & Goals
The SHPE Junior Chapter at I.M. Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA is committed to advancing Hispanic students in STEM fields through leadership, education, and community engagement. The chapter’s goals include promoting the advancement of Hispanic students in engineering and science, increasing Hispanic student enrollment in STEM programs, supporting retention and success through mentorship and academic support, creating opportunities for collaboration with industry and higher education, and providing a forum for sharing resources and information relevant to Hispanic students.
Planned Activities & Meeting Schedule
Throughout the academic year, SHPE Junior Chapter members will participate in STEM-focused workshops and leadership development events, college and industry tours coordinated with SHPE professional chapters, fundraising activities to support chapter initiatives and travel, participation in the SHPE National Convention Pre-College Symposium, networking with college students and industry professionals, community outreach events such as Noche de Ciencias, and chapter elections and leadership development opportunities. Meetings and events will be scheduled regularly and communicated through the chapter advisor and leadership team.
Support for Student Development
Participation in SHPE Junior supports student growth by building leadership and teamwork skills, encouraging academic excellence and integrity, providing access to scholarships and national recognition, offering real-world exposure to STEM careers and college pathways, and enhancing communication and organizational skills through chapter roles. Graduating seniors may earn a SHPE National Junior Graduation Stole to wear at commencement, recognizing their commitment and achievement.

The SHPE Junior Chapter aligns with I.M. Terrell Academy’s MMVC by fostering creative thinkers, visionary leaders, and innovative problem solvers. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and culturally responsive programming, SHPE empowers students to honor their heritage while shaping the future of STEM. The club supports intellectual growth, leadership development, and community engagement in alignment with the academy’s mission and values.
Compliance with Senate Bill 12
The SHPE Junior Chapter complies fully with the requirements of Texas Senate Bill 12. The club does not engage in discussions or activities related to sexual orientation or gender identity. All participating students must submit a signed FWISD Parent Consent Form to ensure parental awareness and approval of their involvement.
