Purpose & Goals

The National Honor Society recognizes and encourages outstanding high school apprentices who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. NHS promotes academic achievement and lifelong scholarship, develops strong leadership within the school and community, provides meaningful service opportunities, and fosters a culture of integrity, responsibility, and respect.

Planned Activities & Meeting Schedule

NHS chapters engage in service projects such as campus clean-ups, peer tutoring, food drives, and community outreach; leadership opportunities through officer positions, planning meetings, and guiding service events; school involvement including academic recognition events, mentoring programs, and student success initiatives; and community engagement with local nonprofits, charities, and civic organizations.

Support for Student Development

NHS provides apprentices with opportunities to strengthen leadership, communication, and organizational skills; demonstrate integrity and responsibility through service and academics; gain recognition for academic excellence and community involvement; and build experiences that support college, career, and scholarship applications.

Alignment with Mission, Motto, Vision, and Core Values (MMVC)

The National Honor Society supports I.M. Terrell Academy’s MMVC by encouraging pride in academic achievement and service to the community, promoting truth, character, and integrity as guiding values, and developing resilience through leadership roles and responsibilities. NHS engages apprentices in service projects that strengthen both school and community, preparing them to become creative thinkers, problem solvers, and visionary leaders in alignment with the academy’s vision.
