Students will learn how to build decks, analyze game mechanics, and master the art of strategic play.
Planned Activities & Meeting Schedule
- Playing various formats of Magic: The Gathering
- Learning deck-building rules and strategies
- Understanding win conditions (“wincons”) and how to build toward them
- Exploring new keywords and mechanics introduced in the game
Meetings are held weekly on Fridays after school and during lunch in Room 1107.
Support for Student Development
Participation in the Coastal Wizards Club enhances critical thinking, sequencing, and negotiation skills. Students will gain hands-on experience in deck-building, gameplay, and resource management. The club also emphasizes financial literacy through discussions about game-related spending and encourages fair play and mutual respect.
Alignment with Mission, Motto, Vision, and Core Values (MMVC)
The Coastal Wizards Club supports I.M. Terrell Academy’s MMVC by fostering creative thinking and artistic expression. Students are encouraged to design their own MtG cards and tokens, explore unique card combinations, and develop strategic approaches to gameplay. These experiences help students learn to assess situations, adapt strategies, and think critically—skills that align with the academy’s vision of developing innovative problem solvers.
Compliance with Senate Bill 12
The Coastal Wizards Club complies fully with the requirements of Texas Senate Bill 12. The club does not engage in discussions or activities related to sexual orientation or gender identity. All participating students must submit a signed FWISD Parent Consent Form to ensure parental awareness and approval of their involvement.
