Purpose & Goals
The 4-H Garden Club empowers students to explore the world of plants, gardening, and environmental stewardship through hands-on learning, teamwork, and community service. The club’s goal is to cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and a love for nature—one garden bed at a time.

- Build and Maintain a Greenhouse: Design and construct a school greenhouse for year-round growing; learn about irrigation, ventilation, and temperature control systems; use the greenhouse for seed starting, propagation, and plant experiments.
- Learn About Plants: Study plant biology, soil science, and ecosystems; identify native and non-native species and their environmental roles; conduct experiments on growth, sunlight exposure, and watering techniques.
- Campus Gardening Projects: Maintain raised beds with seasonal vegetables, herbs, and flowers; practice sustainable gardening techniques like composting and crop rotation; host garden workdays for planting, weeding, and harvesting.
- Plant a Monarch Garden: Create a pollinator-friendly garden with milkweed and nectar plants; learn about monarch butterfly life cycles and migration; track butterfly visits and contribute to citizen science efforts.
- Environmental Stewardship: Explore topics like water conservation, biodiversity, and native landscaping; participate in Earth Day and Arbor Day events; create educational signage and materials for garden visitors.
- Community & Leadership: Collaborate with Master Gardeners, nurseries, and environmental groups; organize plant sales, garden tours, and workshops; build leadership skills through planning, teamwork, and public speaking.

The 4-H Garden Club helps students develop responsibility, environmental awareness, and leadership through real-world learning. Members gain practical skills in gardening and sustainability while building teamwork and communication abilities.

The 4-H Garden Club supports I.M. Terrell Academy’s MMVC by fostering creative thinking, environmental responsibility, and community engagement. It provides a learning environment beyond the classroom that encourages students to become innovative problem solvers and thoughtful stewards of the natural world, honoring the academy’s commitment to excellence and future-focused education.
Compliance with Senate Bill 12
The 4-H Garden Club complies fully with the requirements of Texas Senate Bill 12. The club does not engage in discussions or activities related to sexual orientation or gender identity. All participating students must submit a signed FWISD Parent Consent Form to ensure parental awareness and approval of their involvement.
